Managing your asthma
The more you know about asthma, the better you can manage the symptoms. It is important to learn and watch for warning symptoms of an asthma flare-up so that you can catch it early. Then, you can take steps to prevent it from getting worse.
- Know the warning signs and symptoms of asthma. If your child has asthma, teach them to tell an adult when they notice the warning signs of asthma.
- Take the right amount of medicine at the times that your doctor has stated.
- Always call your doctor of you need to take more medicine that your doctor ordered.
- Of you know what triggers the asthma flare-up, remove yourself from it.
Signs and Symptoms of Asthma
- Drop in peak flow meter readings
- Chronic cough, especially at night
- Trouble breathing
- Chest starts to get tight or hurts
- Breathing faster than normal
- Getting out of breath easily
- Tired, itchy, watery, or glassy eye
- Itchy scratchy, or sore throat
- Sneezing
- Runny nose
- Stuffed up head
- Headache
- Fever
- Restless
- Change in color of face
- Dark circles under eyes
